Educational Presentations
WRT provides educational presentations to civic groups, schools, churches, and Scout Troops FREE of charge. Donations are always welcome (a suggested donation of $20.00 would be appreciated). Presentations show the importance of our native wildlife, along with WRT’s role in helping to rescue, rehab and release the animals.

Healthy wild animals have no interest in attacking you, your pets, or your children. Their only reason for aggression is self-defense and/or protecting their young and their first choice is always to escape perceived danger. With a little effort, we can coexist with wildlife. If they inconvenience you, try to remember their only motive is survival.
What should you do if you see a wild animal that appears to be sick, injured, or orphaned?
Please join our mission and help Nebraska’s orphaned and injured wildlife.
Wildlife cannot cause problems unless people allow them to do so.
Animals are attracted to areas for two main reasons: food and shelter. If there is no food source or no comfortable area for the animal, they will likely seek other accommodations. Keeping wildlife from taking up residence can be as simple as moving a pet food dish inside, making sure trash lids are securely fastened, fixing holes in deck lattices, and capping chimneys. It is illegal to relocate an animal in the state of Nebraska.
We are not a group that traps & relocates animals, but we can discuss alternatives with you.
Ways You Can Help
There is always a need for wildlife rehabbers, phone duty volunteers, people willing to build cages and squirrel boxes, release locations, animal pick up and drop off locations, local store discounts and donations of supplies and veterinarian care.
Founded in 1979
Wildlife Rescue Team, Inc. is a non-profit, independent, all-volunteer organization dedicated to raising and rehabilitating Nebraska’s orphaned and injured wildlife for eventual release back into their natural habitats. We have rehab permits from both Nebraska Game and Parks Commission and US Fish & Wildlife.
We are in-home rehabbers.
WRT operates totally upon private contributions, membership fees and product donations. Your contributions are tax-deductible.
Our food, medical and caging expenses for these animals exceed thousands of dollars each year.

What should you do if you see a wild animal that appears to be sick, injured, or orphaned?
- Call WRT via the hotline
- Decide whether the animal really needs rescued by discussing the situation with WRT.
- Do NOT give any food or water unless directed. Giving food or water can often do more harm than good - it can be deadly.
- Do NOT attempt to remove fishing line or something that may be caught or tangled around the animal.
- Find a box that is large enough for the animal to move around in comfortably and not so large that it could injure itself. Make sure there are air holes in the box and line it with something like an old t-shirt or soft blanket.
- If the animal is cold, place the box on a heating pad set on low until help is available. If a heating pad is not available, a plastic water bottle filled with warm water wrapped with a towel will do for short periods of time.
- The most important thing you can do for the animal is to keep it warm and quiet. Once you contact WRT, you can discuss transport arrangements.
