Why did the turtle cross the road?

6/19/2014

Picture
This is the time of year that many turtles are on the move. Between the rains that we have had and the females that are traveling to lay their eggs, we are getting many calls. If the turtle is NOT injured, please leave it alone. If it needs help crossing the road, temporarily stop traffic and let the turtle cross. If there is a turtle in someone’s yard, it is either moving through or laying eggs. Let the female complete her task and she will be on the move again.  Sometimes we get turtles that have been hit by cars. It takes a long time for a turtle shell to heal. We give them the chance to get better and then release them as far away from a road as possible!

Coyote Pup

This pup came to us for rehabilitation because it was no longer with its mother. We're not sure what happened to her.
Coyotes are shy and don't really want to be around humans. He will be taken care of until he can be released later this year.

A Duck walks into a Tire Store...

6/1/2014

In Omaha, we received a call about a mother Wood Duck who had taken her ducklings into a Tires Plus store! The employees had cornered them in a room but the whole store was open to the outside with garage doors. The employees closed up the building as much as they could and we were able to catch Mom and babies and released them at a nearby lake. The whole time, Mom was talking to her babies and they would “peep” back to let her know they were there. Mom took off into the water first and then the babies followed and met up with her.
